Since 2002, Cy’s company, Shuster Piano Service, has primarily maintained pianos in homes and institutions (such as the University of New Mexico), but he has also served as a concert technician for luminaries such as Chick Corea and Bernadette Peters.

Member At Large

Michael Berkson

Michael Berkson has been a proud member of the AACC since 2019 and previously sang with other Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS) chapters in the New York City area. He has been a Member at Large of the AACC Board since 2024. A member of the Harmonizers baritone section, he has also sung both baritone and tenor in several BHS quartets. Music has always been an essential part of Michael’s life, as he has been acting in plays in musicals since the age of 10. His vocal music journey started in earnest, however, when he joined his high school a cappella group. He went on to serve as music director of his college a cappella group, which took him on musical outreach trips all over the US and the world. He is also a lifelong instrumentalist, with a particular fondness for the saxophone, guitar, and tuba. Since high school, his guitar playing has primarily been for the purpose of leading others in song, and using community singing to create common ground and bring people together – a pursuit which drew him to the AACC and to the Barbershop Harmony Society, both of which create human connection through music as part of their mission. On the rare occasions when he is not making music, Michael is a materials science researcher at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, specializing in X-ray imaging technology. He holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in materials science and engineering from Columbia University. He lives in Washington, DC, with his wife, Emily.
