Community Engagement

Recently recognized by Broadway World as offering “some of the best choral singing” in the D.C. area, the The Harmonizers specialize in one of a cappella’s most challenging forms; four-part close harmony. Founded in 1948 and led by artistic director Joe Cerutti since 2007, the chorus is made up of over 100 volunteer singers ranging in age from their teens to their eighties. The Harmonizers have won nineteen International medals, including four championship gold medals, and received the 2018 Greater Washington DC Area Choral Excellence “Ovation” Award for “Best a Cappella Ensemble.”

Our mission is to “Enrich lives through vocal harmony in the greater D.C. area.”

We believe in the power of music to change lives. Whether providing free Singing Valentines to seniors, caroling in Old Town, Alexandria, joining other choruses like Alfred Street Baptist Church Male Chorus in Community Sings, or honoring veterans at local Veteran’s Day events, we strive to be a choral arts group that makes an impact on our local community.

Thank You!

The Harmonizers and Metro Voices were happy to partner with Fairlington United Methodist Church to support ALIVE!, Alexandria’s food distribution center during our 2023 holiday show. With support from our amazing audience members, we delivered over 490 pounds of food to the distribution center.

Youth Education

Youth Harmony Festival

For over 13 years, we have sponsored a one-day festival where we teach choral students from grades 7-12 from area public schools the basics of barbershop harmony – a unique style not taught in schools. Over the life of the program, we estimate a total of 650 students and 30 choral educators experienced the benefits of group singing including a sense of belonging, creative expression, and social connections.
